Golden Glow Farm - Pasture raised eggs

Our coop of many colors provides a safe nighttime roosting place for our laying hens. At dawn, the door automatically opens allowing our hens access to open pasture. The hens are free to roam and scratch and peck for their favorite meal. They return to the coop to lay eggs or for a meal on non- GMO corn and non-GMO soybean laying mash from an Amish feed mill. As evening comes the hens return to the coop of many colors and the door closes automatically for the night. Our two main laying hens are the Black Star and Salmon Faverolles.   

Black Star chickens are a cross between a Rhode Island or New Hampshire rooster and Barred Rock hens. These are sex-link chickens, which means that the sex of each bird is visually determined when it hatches from the egg. Hens are primarily black with golden breast feathers. This breed is the rock star of egg production yielding over 300 extra-large brown eggs per hen annually. They have a friendly, quiet nature and usually only make noise after they lay their eggs They can stand up to cold weather and bitter winter seasons.   

The Salmon Faverolle was originally bred as utility poultry breed in France for winter eggs. Faverolles are good-sized chickens with a beard, muff, feathered legs, and feet, and fifth toe. Hens are a creamy white and salmon brown and lay cream-colored eggs. Day-old baby chicks are fluffy and creamy white with muffs and fuzzy legs. Faverolles are good in colder weather and have a nice disposition   

Our hens are on the same pastures that our cattle use adding additional nutrients to the soil and feeding the soil life which will return nutrients to the plants and then back to the animals all part of our Regenerative Ag plan for our farm.
